As per 18JUN11 GDS timetable display, UNITED from 29AUG11 will once again shifting codeshare flight numbers on flights operated by Continental Airlines Mainline service.

All existing UNITED “UA” coded flight numbers operated by Continental “CO” coded MAINLINE on both Domestic and International flights will share the same flight numbers.
See below for example:
Route till 28AUG11 eff 29AUG11
Newark – Los Angeles (CO017) UA1485 UA017
Los Angeles – Newark (CO016) UA1487 UA016
Newark – Tokyo Narita (CO009) UA1010 UA009
Tokyo Narita – Newark (CO008) UA1075 UA008

Due to Government regulatory issues, some CO operating International flights does not carry UA flight numbers and will not be affected by the latest changes. UA also will not change flight numbers on Continental Connection operating flights.
In preparation for this latest flight numbers re-alignment, Continental is implementing changes to its own operational flight numbers, to avoid duplication of those used by UA for UA operating flights:
1) Micronesian flights changing from CO850-999 to CO001-199, in order to avoid duplication of UA800-999, currently used for UA long-haul service. (See post on CO changes on 11JUN11).
2) Flight number change from 30JUN11 on Houston – Sao Paulo CO093/092 to CO043/042 (mentioned on this site on 01JUN11), followed by Orange County – Honolulu service changing from CO175/174 to CO1514/1515 starting 01JUL11. This will avoid the use of flight UA093 and UA175. On 16MAY11, this site first discovered and reported that the Star Alliance member was to re-activate both flight numbers from 21MAY11. However, UA later said it will and has permanently retired these flight numbers.
