Latin America's LAN Airlines has placed a firm order at the 49th Le Bourget Airshow for 20 Airbus A320neos as part of its expansion strategy and fleet-renewal program.

ALAFCO signed its A320neo memorandum of understanding and its firm A350-900 order at the 49th Le Bourget Air Show on June 22. The lessor's A350 order is the first to be announced by Airbus at the 2011 Paris Airshow.

Once AviancaTaca firms its memorandum of understanding, the order will be the largest order for the Airbus A320neo in the region and also the biggest from a single airline in the history of Airbus in Latin America, according to the manufacturer.

The commitment from Republic for 40 A319neos and 40 A320neos, announced on June 22 at the Paris Airshow, makes the U.S. company a launch customer for the A319neo.

From June 23, Singapore Airlines' customers from the Belgian city of Brussels can fly to Singapore and beyond via three European hubs through a codeshare agreement with SIA's Star Alliance partner Brussels Airlines.

Pratt & Whitney's PW1524G engine for the Bombardier CSeries commercial-jet family flew its maiden flight on the engine manufacturer's Boeing 747SP flying test-bed at Pratt & Whitney Canada's Mirabel Aerospace Centre, in Mirabel, Quebec, on June 20.

Garuda Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus to order 25 A320-family aircraft, including 15 standard A320s and 10 A320neo aircraft. All will be operated by the carrier's domestic low-cost unit Citilink.

Boeing announced at the Paris Airshow on June 21 that Kuala Lumpur-based Malaysia Airlines had exercised an option to purchase 10 additional 737-800s.

The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, ZA001, has joined the historic line-up of Boeing commercial jets on display at the 2011 Paris Airshow and will be on display at the show on June 22 and June 23.
