The first flight on the route, which Hawaiian Airlines operated on July 12, represented the third time in eight months that the carrier had begun service to a new destination in Asia.

As part of the validation, ANA pilots, together with Boeing pilots, flew the 787 on routes from Seattle to Tokyo Haneda and from Tokyo to four airports across Japan: Osaka Itami and Kansai, Okayama and Hiroshima. Maintenance and ground crews from ANA also gained experience with the aircraft.
