As part of an effort to use technology to enhance flight safety, improve efficiency and protect the environment, Alaska Airlines is issuing 1.5lb Apple iPad tablet computers to its pilots to replace up to 25lb of paper flight manuals that pilots are required to carry when they fly.

The airline says it plans to operate the "highly anticipated" Boeing 787-8 configured with business and economy class seating on the route, making Boston the first destination named by JAL to be served by its Dreamliners.

Rather than touting the amenities of its hotel interiors, as do most other hotels, boutique-hotel group Affinia Hotels is promoting the rooftop bars, pool decks, and terraces of its properties in New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. for the summer of 2011.
